Good afternoon, friends. It is with sad but also excited hearts (quite the contradiction!) that we share with you some news on transitions here at LFI/FJCC. Valerie McVey, our Director of Curriculum, has been with us for more than a decade. She is one of the main reasons that our lesson plans and resources are so popular, as she helped craft most of them (and she is also our ‘designer’, responsible for the look of resources like Civics in Real Life).
Well, Val has been recruited by the National Archives, and will soon transition to serving as a program director for one of the most prestigious government organizations in the world! We are sad to see her go, after so long with us, but so very very excited for this new opportunity she is embracing! We will have her here with us through early November, when she will then move on to bigger things.
So it now gives us great pleasure to introduce Kimberly Garton as our new Civics Instructional Specialist!
Kimberly is a long time social studies educator, most recently as the district supervisor in Brevard County, Florida. She is a graduate of UF’s much loved and missed Secondary Social Studies Proteach program. We are incredibly thrilled to have someone of her skills and experience joining us later this month, and we are looking forward to taking advantage of what she brings to the LFI/FJCC team!
